I think if you're interested in writing a story with an overarching narrative and themes, the constitution of a genre is irrelevant because it's secondary to what you're trying to achieve. It's a toy, not a rulebook. Subvert, accelerate, deconstruct, it's all a suggestion not an affirmation.
