Am I the only one who feels like anime has gotten worse over the years? There are a few gems, but most of it feels like repetitive slop. Op reincarnated demon lord with a harem, or the same predictable romances. kind saint FL, misunderstood villainess, FL who revolves around a mediocre man, misunderstood delinquent + popular kind girl. Why don't they adapt more of the actually good manga? And where's the BL/GL? Now that I realize it, there’s not a lot.
i think what it is actually is that there's simply not as much anime being made as before, not that the overall quality has dropped. There was always slop, now there's just less gems bc of the quantity.
It sucks there's less investments into talented directors and contracts with mangaka, but that was already only a small part of what people think of as good 2000s anime.
I mean rn they're having yoko taro direct an evangelion remake and madhouse recently made an anime adaptation of Liar Game. Plus considering the smaller amount of anime, they r fs making bl. Cherry magic got popular enough for a dub with daman mills voicing another twink, and more recently "the other world's books depend on the bean counter" also got animated
I know what you mean. The animation is horrible in a lot of them too. However, don’t forget that usually, we watch the ‘good’ older stuff and forget the old shitty ones. I remember pretty shitty ones from back then as well, but since anime got more popular, we have seen an increased.they just seem like low budget anime, i guess it hits every industry.
Omg yes, not only theyre going for the most overdone tropes but the artstyle keep getting more messy and inconsistent too Ive seen a few where the character's face looks different every time theres an angle change
It definitely has, not just plot wise but in the animation aspect as well. Everything is so bad unless it's from the more popular studios but that doesn't us give any guarantee. I personally love the 2000s anime, you can really feel the love, passion, vibe of the truest form (even though they lowk all have the same artstyle, I still really like them)
im not sure perfect blue wouldn't be made today tbh. Madhouse isnt at their peak, sure, but I think they kept a lot of the spirit of their 2000s anime thru the 2010s and even now.

I do think there's a lot of fun stuff nowadays but if you think about it a little it's obvious anime has stopped being an art form and just whatever gets the animation company money. Like even the designs and backgrounds have gotten worse from like 90s animes, you'd think 90s Japan was woke af with how different the skin tones were, a great example is trigun look at the difference between skin tones from the old version and the modern one they even stole wolfwood nose
So true, I honestly just stopped watching anime and started reading manga (which is a lot more enjoyable imo), because of how bad anime is these days. I don’t even bother with the new releases because I can predict the entire plot just from the summary. Also, I never thought I’d say Hana yori dango/boys over flowers has more diversity than recent anime.

Heard some studios use ai, I also noticed it in one of the newer anime I watched. That might be why there’s inconsistency or weird frames
