Do you guys think there's a particular reason baseball is so prevalent in BLs?
I replied to a question like two weeks ago saying "Baseball is gay and basketball is straight" and what i meant by that is how prevalent baseball is in bls and basketball is shoujos. Ive been thinking about it but other than the kind of funny coincidence of the terms Pitcher and Catcher being used to mean top and bottom i can't think of what could be the reason these sports are chosen for specific romantic genres
I think its for two main reasons !
For one, baseball is just a deeply rooted game in Japanese culture , like volley ball, I think I know a few volleyball bls which I think supports this too, especially in highschool, them baseball games get HEATED and I think that makes for an interesting plot

logistically speaking, they both work out for their genres in terms of meeting opportunities and the conflicts they introduce.

pretty sure it's just cause those sports are more popular in korea and japan and played in highschools. why do extra research on a new sport when you can just stick with the ogs? but it does make it fresh when you choose something new like that one bl manhwa with hockey reply
