Midnight discussion: Teen pregnancy
I’d like to hear the opinions of the adults here, preferably people by 20+.
A while ago, I watched a video about a 14-year-old girl who was in a relationship with a 19-year-old boy and became pregnant. When she was interviewed, she said that no one had forced her or pressured her into anything. She said that she wanted it and had always dreamed of becoming a mother from a young age, rather than living the same lifestyle as other teenagers.
Another case I heard about was more about them not knowing what protection was or how to use it, and then the pregnancy happened. (Both were at the same age of 15)
Of course, those aren’t the only cases of teenage pregnancy I’ve heard about. There are many others, and it seems to be becoming more common, even in my country. So, it made me wonder:
What do you all think about teenage pregnancy? Who do you think should be responsible? the teenagers themselves, their parents, or a combination of both?
does your view change depending on the circumstances, such as the age gap, whether the pregnancy was consensual or non-consensual, and whether the teenagers are actually prepared to raise a child?
Things like whether they’re mature for their age, whether they have support from family or others, or whether they choose adoption or abortion?
I’m genuinely just curious to hear your thoughts and opinions. I’d like to understand and learn from different perspectives!
I'm sorry 14 and 19????? Wtf
Anyway teenagers needs good sex education to avoid such cases as the couple that didn't know about protection but also teen are going to fuck up and get pregnant anyhow and the only thing a parent and community should do is explain how it will affect them from then on and respect their choices and HELP if they decide ...... 1 reply
Teen pregnancy is the only gamble where the person who made the bet and the person affected by the outcome are two different people. Fucking reckless and irresponsible to say the least...
Also that 19yo should be behind the bars... reply
I feel like when it comes to teen pregnancy, a lot of the responsibility should fall on the parent(s) for not providing enough sex ed for their child. When you’re that young, I don’t think you could ever be “mature” enough or prepared to have a baby, and it might possibly be even more of a risk than if you were to have one as an adult. Teen parent here, they're mostly uneducated who thinks a family life is easy and everything, these kids don't know what they really signed up for. Consensual or not, teens aren't well educated enough about family planning and expenses. When I first found out I was gonna be a parent with my ex, I wasn't mentally prepared nor financially. I didn't wa...... reply
Sorry this is a very long response. TLDR I think it's a case by case basis. I'm a 27F.
There are certain over arching things I believe all around teen pregnancy, being:
1)sex education needs to be improved and expanded. Abstinence is not the only answer, and more knowledge leads to more informed choices in all aspects.
2) age gaps in teen relati...... reply
I'm sorry but people who excuse this kind of age gap needs to be burned at stake. Idc if that man is still in his 'teens', that is a whole ass adult already and a criminal. The gap from physical experiences and mental maturity is very evident with that set-up. That man already knows the outcomes of unprotected sex and yet still indulged in his urge...... reply
I don't think children are ever ready to raise another child, but whether they chose to keep the baby or not should be their decision. However, if it were my teenager, I would strongly encourage an abortion if only for the fact that their main priority right now should be school. Even if they claim to want to become a parent, I don't think they're ...... reply
I very much think it has to do with the adults teaching their children about sex and protection. I grew up with several people who became teen moms and in at least 3 cases, they were living with their bf in the same bed with no birth control. Majority of their parents knew that they were having unprotected sex. But because their parents "trusted th...... reply
As a person who was basically raised by my siblings or a system full of other children that couldn't live with their parents, but raised by other children: Child raising a child doesn't work. Period.
I have seen this repeated in many different situations, even after I became adult. Results were always different level of bad.
It often wasn't much b...... reply
14 year old and and 19 year old? That has to be a case. No 14 years old can legally consent to that no matter if she wanted it. Her mind and body has not developed enough to take care for a child and that man that got her pregnant need to go the fuck to jail. I will never support teen pregnancy and I do somewhat blame the parents for not educating...... reply
