What’s your least favorite trope in BL?
My least favorite trope is when the ml only likes the mc because he was a reincarnation of a past lover, I dislike this trope because it feels like the ml only loves mc for who they were, not who they are. Also, it’s always the central plot and creates a lot of unnecessary conflict.

the worst manga I’ve ever read is papillon, it genuinely made me so mad to the point I wanted to chase everyone down with a machete. Yes it is that serious

What’s something you used to love but as you matured started losing interest/disliking it?
For me, it’s boys over flowers (the manga & drama) and tsundere mc trope.
I used to LOVE bof. But as I matured, I realized how toxic domyoji and makino really were after rewatching it 2-3 times and as for the tsundere trope, I just don’t find the appeal in lying about your feelings so the relationship feels one-sided.

I wanted the novel izstastl to get a manhwa adaptation but I fear the fandom would be radioactive and filled with larpers… (not that I really care though) same with every romance leaves its trace novel. I also wanted popular mangaka x depressed mangaka to get an anime adaptation. (=・ω・=)

I used to call every mid to mid trash BL “revolutionary” and slap a 5/5 on it. Looking back now? Solid 2s, most of them. That’s exactly why I don’t trust anyone who calls a yaoi “peak”, half these people will call anything peak.
Sad ending ≠ peak. Angst ≠ amazing writing. And “psychological” doesn’t mean peak either, half the time it just means there’s a bunch of rape in it and people mistake trauma dumping for depth.
So, genuine question: what’s a BL you rated 5 stars back in the day that you’d rate way lower now? And what actually changed, the story, or just you?
(It doesn’t necessarily have to be a BL I just used it as an example.)

What are your favorite quotes? Here are mine.
-“Indeed, I did once lose everything. However… as I faded into darkness everlasting, I heard a voice calling out to me. And so, I vowed once more, that no matter how long it may take, how great the obstacle that stand in my way, or what form you may assume, I shall come back for you.”
-“A true suicide is a paced, disciplined certainty. People pontificate, 'Suicide is Selfishness.' Career churchmen go a step further and call it a cowardly assault on the living...Cowardice has nothing to do with it - suicide takes considerable courage. No, what's selfish i to demand another to endure an intolerable existence, just to spare families, friends and enemies a bit of soul-searching.”
-“I no longer wanted to live… solely yearning for death to free me.”
-“no one is free, even the birds are chained to the sky.”
-“I thought that if I corrupted this man, it would feel like overwhelming ecstasy. Instead it makes me shudder with sorrow.”
-“I wish your unhappiness were mine”
-"There's nobody in this world who's really irreplaceable. I could die right now, and the world would keep turning like nothing happened... but it's because our lives are so fragile and tiny and insignificant that we work so hard to live them to the fullest with the time we've got. That's what a human life's all about. Trying to give a reason to something that doesn't have one."- Harada, Stories of the Shinsengumi
-"Farewell, until our souls cross paths once more in the boundless sphere of fate,"
-"I stepped towards him. And when I did, the moonlight shining down upon us intensified, and our gazes of jade and ruby... intertwined."
-"Humans constantly feel pain in their hearts. Because the heart is so sensitive to pain, humans also feel that to live is to suffer. You're so delicate, like glass, especially your heart... In other words, I love you."
-"Because it's my destiny to continue to live, even if it may result in the destruction of humanity. But I can also die here. Life and death are of equal value to me. Dying of your own will. That is the one and only absolute freedom there is."
-"The purpose of my birth really was for you and I to meet each other."
-"This is mankind's fate. The thread of human hope is spun with the flax of sorrow."
-"Thank you. I'm glad I met you. My life was meaningful, because of you."
- “… Dad didn’t love me for who I was. I wasn’t special to him. As long as it’s a child,”
-“That which can be destroyed by truth should be.”
-“I don’t want to die sad.”
Bonus: “ how would you describe my figure right now if it ain’t hourglass?” “‘Oh, maybe uh, a sippy cup.”

What do you think would be an interesting premise for a manga/manhwa?
I thought a slow burn BL with two ballet dancers that are rivals would be cool, I also thought if junji ito wrote a horror BL it would be peak.

I want to ask something, genuinely curious what people think. Do you guys believe that not wanting straight side couples in BL/GL is inherently misogynistic? I came across a thread where a girl said exactly that, she didn’t like straight side couples in her BL/GL, and the response was cruel. People called her every word in the book. Misogynistic, fetishizing, generalizing, basically anything that ended in “ize” or “ic” got thrown at her, whether or not it actually applied.
Here’s my take, I don’t think it’s misogynistic. Not even a little. If I’m reading a BL or a GL, I’m there for queer representation. That’s the reason I picked it up in the first place. So when a straight side couple gets inserted into the story, it’s not that I have a problem with hetero romance, I read plenty of it and enjoy it, it’s that it’s not what I came for. Wanting the media you turn to for representation to actually represent you isn’t a problem.
What bothers me is how casually people throw around words like “misogynistic” and “fetishizing.” These aren’t just insults you get to deploy because someone has a preference you don’t like. They mean something. And when you use them this loosely, you drain them of any weight for the situations where they genuinely apply.
The part that really gets me is that it’s usually the same people making these accusations who don’t actually care about gay men being fetishized, and don’t actually care about misogyny. They’re not defending anyone. They’re using the language of social justice as cover for what is, plainly, homophobia. Calling someone a “gay fetishizer” for reading BL, or “misogynistic” for not wanting heterosexual relationships in queer media isn’t concern about representation, it’s an excuse to be upset that queer stories exist without needing to justify themselves to people who dislike gay people in the first place. What’s your opinion on this?

Okay I need to talk about this fujoshi internalized misogyny thing because I am losing it. I was looking for yuri recs and stumbled on a post captioned “thd.” And I’m wondering is this a dog whistle? Turns out it stands for “total himejoshi death.” I sighed, then went to the comments and found the op’s justification,“I’m lesbian and I prefer yaoi.” so you wish death on people for liking yuri because you personally prefer yaoi? Make it make sense.
And the comments are worse, people going “total himejoshi gang bang” like it’s a joke. You hate yuri fans enough to joke about them being assaulted? And half these people have never read a single yuri in their life. Yuri and yaoi are both queer media, just with the genders swapped. I genuinely don’t understand the hostility.
For the record, I’m not a fujo or a himejoshi, I’m a herbivore, I consume all romance regardless of the characters genders, so this isn’t me being defensive about my own thing. But honestly the worst part was that these weren’t just chronically online teenagers, they were grown adults

Do you prefer having a lot of friends, or none at all? I used to have a big friend group in high school, but we’ve drifted apart. Lately I’ve realized I actually prefer not having many friends or none at all, I did make one new friend recently who’s really sweet, and I think I’d rather have just her than a big group. What about you?

Am I overthinking this, or is this guy a red flag?
There’s an abandoned looking house in my neighborhood, I didn’t know anyone lived there until I saw a man come out one day. Didn’t think much of it at first.
A few days later, I was walking my younger sisters (minors, one still in elementary school) down that same street, it’s the main path to town, so we pass it often. This time he tried to talk to them specifically, not me, even though I was right there as the adult. He asked, “Is that your cat?” That struck me as odd for two reasons, he directed it at my sisters instead of me, and the only cat we’d interacted with was two blocks away, from a previous walk, meaning he’d been watching us. I cut the conversation off, told him it wasn’t our cat, and left.
While I just happened to not be home, he showed up at our house, which is strange on its own, since we live four streets over and I have no idea how he found our address. He asked my mom the same question, this time about a stray cat I’ve been feeding. My mom mentioned it to me, and I told her he’s the same guy from the walk.
He also seems visibly off, possibly under the influence of something.
Today, while my family and I were out visiting a relative, he came back to our house again, and also approached other neighborhood kids to ask about the cat. He’s now claiming the cat is his and that he’s been “missing” it for a year, but I’ve only been feeding this cat for 4–5 months, and it’s clearly scared of him.
So, am I overreacting, or is this genuinely concerning? I keep feeling like the cat is just an excuse for him to talk to my siblings and other minors, but I don’t know for sure.
