Excellent characterization of a clingy guy who is in love with his straight best friend who specializes in running away from uncomfortable situations. The characters are relatable even when they are not likeable.
SPOILER ALERT: I have a bad case of second-lead syndrome which has caused me to drop many a triangle / harem story. For once, my ship actually sailed and I was able to celebrate when I finished reading. But then, we got added extras of what happens after - very realistic and very sad..
Beautifully crafted story about a Yakuza, Nonami, who falls for the doctor, Uzuki, who saved his life. But in the darkness, he didn't get a good look at his savior and misheard the name as Suzuki. So he goes on a wild goose chase, searching for a nurse named Suzuki while being treated by Dr. Uzuki.
Beautifully done story of ex-yakuza X ex-criminal. Nothing new about the plot, but the treatment makes it nice and fluffy. Worth the read.
During summer, Yuuya cross-dresses as Yuuria and works as a hostess at his mother's bar at a sea port. This is the season when fishing vessels dock at the port and the female part-timers avoid coming in because of the rough and vulgar behavior of the fishermen. Since most fishing vessels only dock for a short time and the men are only interested in a fleeting romance, Yuuria indulges them by flirting with them. But this time, he meets Ken, who seems to be genuinely interested in Yuuria.
Dense teacher X dishonest student
SPOILER alert: I like the twists and turns and the who is manipulating whom conundrum... Both try to act cool and unaffected while all their actions are meant to entrap the other... I like how it took years and a couple hints from his former student for sensei to realize that none of his threats really amounted to anything coz he couldn't have acted on any of them... Interesting read...
Very simple and straight-forward story. But the art and the dialogues are beautiful. It's more like poetry than a manga. Definitely recommend.
Story of 2 Kabuki dancers who are contemporaries, competitors and co-actors... their relationship on stage and off stage... Fun characters, good pacing and an introduction to the world of Kabuki...
A fun detective X criminal story with interesting characters and good pacing. I like that the detective pushes the criminal to clean up his act and find a regular job...
Interesting story of ex-lovers getting back together after a break-up and coming out of the closet (in quite a grand way) to not just their friends and family but the entire college. The conflicts are handled well and there's depth to every character. The stark contrast between how Naoto's close knit family and Taichi's broken-up family handle the 'coming-out-of-closet' conversation is also quite interesting without being cliche.
While the theme of two-sided (but perceived to be unrequited) love between childhood friends is cliched and over-used, in this manga, it is exceedingly well done. The atmosphere of the small town, the insecurities of the 2 MCs and the intensity of their interactions are amazing. Brilliantly done story and beautiful art.
