I'd argue that this is probably one of the """"better"""" uses of the rape plot. At least it's not romanticized in this one. Usually in these types of stories, the uke ends up getting together with the person who raped them. I'm at least glad that isn't the case here. Although, my personal favorite author who uses the rape device is Harada - she draws rape scenes a LOT, but they're 100% ALWAYS treated like a crime. Sometimes it feels like she's the only artist who realizes how big of a crime rape is. :V

Some of it has a lot to do with cultural differences. If I'm not mistaken, the laws in Japan specifically define rape as being between a man and woman only. It's a crappy outdated law that should be revised, but the general consensus states that a man cannot actually rape another man (even if everyone knows that isn't true). Another reason is because it gets a reaction from the reader. It doesn't actually matter if the reader gets angry or has a favorable view of the plot line as long as it manages to make the reader feel some kind of emotion. Think about it. The worst stories you've probably ever read left you feeling nothing, and you probably can't really remember anything about them. Even if it's because the story made you mad, it was memorable.

On point. I'd rather read rape used like this than the victim falling for his rapist. And being complete strangers to begin with. Ever since I opened a series and read how stupid it is, I was traumatized. I never thought that such plots existed. Being sex friends is fine but fall in love? Get out. So definitely, this manga is better.

I suppossing here but I think that sometimes when a author in Japan wants to treat in a serious way a matter like rape, prostitution, sex... they resort to a male figure as substitute of the female because for them could be a taboo, maybe? and for them, well and for many other cultures too, rape a man is less grave.So they end up dont give it the importance that requires as in this manga. Well, I read so many times when a character get assaulted in some way "Im not a girl" They make so many diferences between men and women, the way the talk, behave, think, live.

I agree completely with you, I'm tired to find this kind of twist even in manga where I don't expect this, 'cause I always try to avoid it, and it was all going well and then was introduced the ex and I continued even if I could imagine where the plot was going but after the two guys scene... I'm out, it's disgusting. I don't find any joy or pleasure in reading this kind of shit, why mangakas don't understand that this is really unnecessary... You can write a good story even without rape.

No offense taken. I'm not Japanese, so you don't have to worry about that. That's the main reason I worded my comment with "if I'm not mistaken" and "I think". Since I'm not from Japan, I honestly can't say for sure if I'm right or not. Also, it may be that the laws have changed. I definitely don't agree with it, but I still tend to chalk most of these things up to cultural differences. I don't buy into ethnocentrism, so it makes it much easier to accept things I don't like or agree with in stories at face value and move on. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes when stories are involved from settings to plot details to even character design. I don't try to tell someone what they should like or not like; I was merely trying to give a possible reason mangakas use rape as a plot device so often. I could be totally off the mark, but it does make it easier for me to overlook the obvious contrivances.

Yeah. Since I realize from reading manga that there was so many cultural differences in things that I though was common in all advances countries like Japan, I always try to read this stories from his perspective but its hard to me, it doesn make it easy on the contrary it make me mad, when it involves matters like rape. However, I think Japan would progress in those things in the next decades because if I look back at the past of my country fourty years we were the same here in many matters, so maybe its not cultural differences but a difference pace in social progress.

You could be right about the difference in social pace. I haven't really thought about it. I realized you meant that in general, but I chose to answer specifically that there wasn't anything you said that offended me. Although, it takes a lot to offend me, so I don't know how much of a comfort it was. Your English is very good. Honestly, I didn't even notice that English wasn't your native language when reading your posts. You write much better than a lot of people I know personally here in the U.S.

I have a feeling that Sangwoo might just get away and use his cool to brush off the officer, might raise up more suspiciousness but he will get away with it. However, I have a bad feeling to yoonbum, sangwoo might beat him up by thinking he is seeking help or make some noise to get officer attention.

I don't know what might happen but I'm pretty scared for yoonbum, officer would definitely investigate sangwoo's parent murder case, this might lead him to get more clues to other murder cases.

When sangwoo tortured yoonbum after his disappointment in yoonbum escaped attempt, I was trying to catch my breath as well. This serie reminds me of when I read "Oyasumi Punpun", those feeling I got while reading the story were pretty similar.

yeah, probably Yoonbum will fail at calling out to the officer for help and Sangwoo'll punish him after he drives away the officer, but I don't want that to happen bc I want the officer to come into the house and see (or hear) Yoonbum! The reason for this is because I don't think Yoonbum would hand Sangwoo over to the police and this is the only opportunity for him to prove his love and loyalty to Sangwoo. Plus, it'd be fun to see Sangwoo helpless for once, unlike his usual cool self.

If Yoonbum chooses to remain by Sangwoo when he's given the opportunity to escape, maybe they could go back to those days that Sangwoo was caring and cherishing Yoonbum. Even better than that, Sangwoo'd allow him to go out of the house if he trusted him enough.

Well, either way, the officer seems to be closing in on him and there will come a day when he figures it all out. I'm also curious about the family murder case and Yoonbum's past. I hope Sangwoo never forces Yoonbum to have sex without his consent. I'll check out the manga that you mentioned.

I would love to see officer get in the house and meet yoonbum too, I pretty sure yoonbum will sided sangwoo and wouldn't ask officer to help. I'm pretty depressed every time I read story about domestic violence. For sangwoo to kill his father, i could see why, however to go as far as killed his mum too, it's a bit strange, must have something behind this for sure. For yoonbum, he seems to have a very hard and humiliating life which will be very interesting to see.

Oyasumi Punpun is not yaoi sadly but if you don't mind the genre, it's by far one of the best coming of age manga, playing psychologically with many Japan social issues through MC and people around him. The art is really pretty and very detailed contrasting with MC and his family. How pretty each character looks also reflect from their stage of mind, when they have mental break down they can be pretty scary and ugly. MC is also very interesting as well as disturbing.

they're only in Korean for now. I couldn't wait to read more so I bought the Korean raws and used google translate app.

btw I missed that on your previous post you wrote that when Yoonbum was choking, you were holding your breath as well. I did that too! Lol. I couldn't do it though, it's really hard to talk that way. It's harder than it looks.

Oyasumi Punpun is a little weird tbh, but it drew my attention. I was reading the first chapters and people have random breakdowns and Idk why they do that. I don't understand everything that's going on but I'll follow more on it and see where it goes. It seems very out of the ordinary and somewhat interesting.

oh and let's not forget the oldschool song Killing me softly that Sangwoo keeps listening to. That makes me all the more curious about his past. Did u know of it or listen to it? Does it come out on the radio on dinner time, sorry I got confused all of a sudden. Yoonbum said when he hears that song, he knows that Sangwoo is home and then he's taken out of the basement. Does that mean Sangwoo plays that song when he comes home? Such a trivial thing but I still asked, lol

I really like the chapter. I have a feeling yoonbum will turn to be the dominant one or at least he knows his disappearance is significant to Siwoon.

I picked up Sangwoo's habit when he was nervous or about to attack his prey or not in his sane stage, he grabbed his left butt as though to confident himself. Perhaps, I might have been over thinking but the author seems to left a few clue here and there thoughout the series. For the song, not sure about this, he might heard it from when he killed his beloved mother. ╮(￣▽￣)╭ will have to see a little further, I like that song though. (づ￣ ³￣)づ

Ahhh, one thing I like about the uke is his mole (beauty mark) under his left eye, it's really charming. (≧∀≦)

I'm with you, when I read that part, I was like "Seriously!?!?!?（/TДT)/ " I tried to be positive by telling myself "perhaps they just kissed nothing more, it was alright." (though I knew they did it.) and then........yep turned out like we all know. Well, I actually respected park min's faithfulness after he was in a relationship with the blond guy, though his heart belongs to Chun Sam. Perhaps this is why I was quite disturbed of the way they broke up and how that blond guy handled the situation.
