It’s alright? Out of 5 stars I’d give 2.5 to 3.
Story is lackluster. Has a lot of potential but the main character is just toooo overpowered. I get that he wasn’t all that and a bag of chips in his previous life but now his 2nd life is just too easy imo. Everything is on easy mode, he doesn’t struggle enough. He’s got it all. He doesn’t need to train his body that much cuz he’s naturally gifted, and all of a sudden he can be a legendary swords man or the heir of a prominent household. Like seriously? He has options to pick and choose from? And both garnering epic results? Life is a breeze for him. And not to mention whenever he’s troubled he resolves the problems too quickly and too easily. Everything goes too smoothly, everything is going his way. That’s why it’s not satisfying when he resolves conflicts. It’s just anti climatic. It just gets to a point where things are too predictable.
Let me just say, so far, I haven’t found a Korean action comic that can rival “the ember knight” due to all of the things I mentioned above. I’d reread “the ember knight” ten times over before I try picking this back up again. It’s THAT GOOD. Plot? Unpredictable. Characters? They grow on you and they’re not instantly overpowered so their growth is satisfying. MC’s life? NOT EASY lol, he struggles to achieve what he ends up with. Gosh, I can’t sing it enough praise.
Also if you’re looking for a similar comic where the main character is the “black sheep” of the family and has to strategically win the favor of basically everyone around them, I 100% recommend “death is the only ending for the villainess” unlike in this comic it took basically nothing to win back the favor of his dad… but whatever. His life is on EASY mode.

I was thinking the same thing. The fights are too short and he barely even struggles. I just finished reading the regressed mercenary has a plan and the plot was so good it had me hooked for 2 days. Then I started reading this and it’s just mediocre in comparison for me. （￣へ￣）
I think that's the premise of this story.
I mean in the beginning he really said if "I was reborn with all the perks what can I do and how much can I grow?" And the beginning highlightes his quality as a leader more than anything else, to the point his enemy regretted that he wasn't serving MC as his lord.
Now that he was given second chance with all the perks: noble birth, gifted body and all, he can bloom as the finest lord, and can inspire other people who struggle with class differences. Like helping Hugo and Felicia reach their dreams, elevating his commonbirth servant to a butler. I haven't read the novel but I think the story will center around this kind of premise.
The basic is just difference, for regressed mercenary machinations it's all about facing an upcoming world class disaster, and for regressed villaines is all about revenge and the satisfaction where the ones who do bad things feel bad.
Also not looking for a fight, because I loved death is the only ending for the villainess. But second time I read, it's practically a guilt-tripping fiesta. Yvonne quite literally used being abandoned as a basis for people to feel guilt and milk obedience out of that feelings. And I think Penelope used that kind of method quite a bit in the beginning, either unconciously or not. If not maybe that's just the author style.
As for regresses mercenary machinations, I think the author put it heavy on him being a mercenary used to mercenary ways, in which he fight how his mercenary days used to be-flexible fighting style, heavy on dodging and countering and all- and how he grow mercenary ways of fighting and thinking as a noble.
Whereas this story is all about finding hidden gems.
Again not looking for a fight but I think this is just the case of similar idea excecuted with different vibes in mind.

Also a reccomendation if you want mc that was given problem after problem and it was hard to solve I'd reccomend I become a tyrant of defense game.
Even animes has filler episodes but that MC was given no breaks. By korean expression I'll say it feels like eating sweet potatoes non stop. It's sweet, delicious, but also parching
Ngl this whole story was super wholesome! I just wish his lil sisters had more screen time! Or even his family in general. I love stories that have a lot of family interactions on the side! It’s so slice of life ugh

I’m on chapter 4 and so far I’m getting the same vibe of “Alice Academy” based off how suspiciously “peaceful” the school appears to be.
Idk I do badly want to read this but I can’t turn my brain off whenever these stories have the older ML literally RAISE the younger one from infancy/youth/childhood to adulthood.. that’s basically his adoptive son in my eyes.
And I’m on chapter 2 now! Idk did any of y’all read this thinking this way but just brushed it off somehow?
The bottom being older, masculine and a mafia boss on top of all of that is just sooo appealing to me. I just wish he met the Fox or Wolf guy when he was already an adult. Him raising the hybrid himself even if it was for 2 years… just doesn’t sit right with me. They’re father and son for all I care. Dam… ugh I can’t shake this feeling. I had this marinating for soooo long too. </3

A lot of people in the comments and myself included were constantly reminded of this fact and struggled but honestly its really worth it (though the ending did feel kiiiinda rushed and it got a little confusing) and as an animal shifter, Hae-On progresses really fast so he actually has memories of his parents and he's fairly mature because he just grows so fast. Despite this it can still be a struggle
It would be weird if it was uncle shin doing it, but actually hae-on is the one who kept pursing him,till the very last episode,also there's barely panels of hae-on's childhood, it's like about one and half or two chapters in the beginning
I've read up to chapter 18, and your comment made me think, so I went back to check. He appears as a child in chapters 1, 2, 3, 7 (as a wolf cub), 15, 16, and 18, this considering that I only checked up to chapter 18. So I think it's a valid discomfort
