for people that are confused about the drug and Dr. Shin's explanation in ch24, i hope this helps a bit ^^

neurotransmitters are chemicals that allows our brain neurons to communicate with each other. serotonin is an NT that stabilizes our well-being, regulating our mood, sleep, etc. it's what allows us to feel satisfied.

how the Smile drug works is that it overloads the person temporarily with serotonin, leading to a period of intense euphoria and heightened senses, before destroying the serotonin receptors that would normally receive serotonin -- so there's a breakdown in communication. if your body can't receive serotonin chemicals, it leads to depression, sleep disorders, anxiety, memory loss, and more. it sounds like the Smile drug is an extreme version of molly/ecstasy, if you're familiar with that!

we have another NT called dopamine, which is known as the pleasure NT: we receive dopamine when we're doing things that make us feel good, it's like a reward, but it's only a temporary rush (compared to the long-term calmness we get with serotonin).

what Dr. Shin is suggesting is basically rerouting the serotonin away from the damaged serotonin receptors, and towards the undamaged dopamine receptors to be received alongside dopamine. IIRC, this is how some SSRIs/antidepressants work! however, it seems that normal SSRIs haven't worked on Jaeyoung. I'm not exactly sure of Seungmin's role in this, but maybe (with the power of BL logic) Seungmin's giving Jaeyoung experiences that would lead to dopamine and serotonin release while grounding him so he won't receive too much of it (because that would lead to aftereffects like with cocaine). basically, like a human SSRI?

i have so many problems with this manga, ik there's like 5 readers of this but i NEED to rant bc i feel my brain melting

PART 1 - mc & manager

okay so with the first accidental murders, we establish the mc as someone with a strong conscience but maybe some mental problems, who recognizes killing for no reason is wrong and wants to turn himself in, but is can't due to needing to support his hospitalized mom + his manager threatens to kill himself if he goes to the police. ie. the mc isn't an edgy light yagami type, he has a moral code and this was an accident they just need to cover up.

THEN. THEY MURDER THEIR COWORKER. JUST BC SHE SAW A BIT OF BLOOD ON THE MANAGER'S GLASSES. WHICH CAN BE EASILY EXPLAINED AND SHE DIDNT EVEN CARE BC SHE'S BUSY BEING IN LOVE WITH THE MANAGER. 1) it was SO unlikely that the murders of some random street thugs could be tied back to them, whereas killing THEIR COWORKER is such an obvious way to get caught?? 2) if they weren't cold blooded killers with no conscience, killing her when she doesn't even suspect them is so fucking insane???? even with the possibility she might somehow connect the dots, that's PSYCHOPATHIC to do with no hesitation even light yagami didn't kill an innocent person until way later in the game, and it was to gain FBI info, like PLS bffr

ok but now we've set a precedent, we snap and kill bad people, but we also need to cover up our killings. cool. SO TELL ME WHY, WHEN THEY CAPTURE A FUCKING COPYCAT SERIAL KILLER, one that they interrogate to found out is insane and brutal asf, THEY LET HER GO WITH A SLAP ON THE WRIST ???? WHAT R THEY DOING OFC SHE'S NOT GONNA STOP AND WILL KILL MORE PEOPLE WHAT IS WRONG WITH U?!?$)&?&?$ and wdym u don't like that she's an inferior copy of u? are we a superiority complex-fueled killer like light now? when the hell did that happen WHY NOT LET HER TAKE THE FALL FOR ALL THE KILLINGS IF U DON'T WANNA BE CAUGHT AND UR NOT DOING THIS FOR EGO PURPOSES wtvr man

also a smaller thing but i hated that we didn't get the mc's immediate reaction to finding out his gf was dead, it made her death feel so weightless? like going straight from her death to him coldly being like "we're getting revenge" at her funeral like c'mon girl ur giving nothing but ok....

PART 2 - detective

U ARE NOT L WHAT ARE U DOINGGG BRO his detective-ing is so fucking ridiculous wdym u immediately locked into the mc being guilty based on VIBES with nothing to back u up other than the mc going to a building near the crime scene later. why the hell did he become completely convinced it was the mc and the manager (only getting deterred very briefly) with literally no evidence this whole time? the author's so clearly trying to create a light vs L level cat and mouse game but has NO CLUE how to actually write good mystery solving so literally everything happens just because.

like for example, the death of the actress. the concept of the mc murdering her beforehand, acting as the girl on stage without anyone realizing, then doing a 10 second quick-change act before acting his real role while the manager got rid of the clothes backstage is SO far-fetched that when the detective didn't find the clothes later, he SHOULD'VE been deterred, wondering if he was barking up the wrong tree.

and when the copycat killings started popping up, it's fine that he suspects that they were the work of a copycat and not the real killer, but why was he CONVINCED of it (before she went missing with a severed finger)? he had no evidence?? why was he at least not doubting himself at that point, when a million more murders occurred that the MC + manager could no way have done? it's so unsatisfying bc he's just written to know EVERYTHING with no solid proof just because he needs to be The Rival to the mc and it's so silly

also he's just a shit detective bc wdym u didn't use the traffic camera(?) evidence that the manager was taking a giant cooler somewhere immediately after the actress's death, u didn't try to track the location he was heading to, u didn't try to get a warrant to search his house to look for that cooler? and this is the ONLY actual lead, potential proof, u have? alright.

i know i've probs put more thought into this than the author did but needed to get it off my chest so i can move on with my life...
