I think the anime follows the novel’s design. The manga makes Will into brown hair, but in the illustrations of light novel, Will is actually shown with red hair.

When reading fictional works and historicals, u need to put urself in their shoes and not the other way around because that's the only way to appreciate the story. I mean I know it doesn't take a genius to read works like these, but we should probably put a test before allowing ppl to read historical/fictional works.
