im writing a story of my own, a BL with black and brown characters and trans/nonbinary leads in a world of plant magic and revolution. im debating on whether i should write the novel and find an artist later or if i should just try my hand at doing it all at once… my biggest concern is not being able to find an artist who will adequately/accurately represent my poc characters… which artists have yall seen do a good job with black and brown characters/are any of yall illustrators (especially poc illustrators) and interested in working on a project?
i’ve been on this here website for about 171 years at this point so pretty much ignore my early reads, it was slim pickings. im working on curating my tastes and finding stories i actually like, not just reading cuz its there. ill check out a lot of things and rate it so i know what i like. if you find anything really good, send it my way!
note: im not a puritan, nor am i anti kink, but i do l have some strong opinions abt a few things like pedophilia, incest, grooming, bestiality, and mindbreak rape plots
current ratings scale: (as of jan 2026, i used to be pretty liberal but now im gonna try to stick to this) - i feel dumber, icky, or worse about myself for having read this and i applaud myself for not reading it just cuz it exists. including things with pedophilia, gang rape with mind break, bestiality etc that give me the squick. also AI art and stories. - its not worth reading. doesn’t offer anything new or good to the world, and in some ways offers bad things, like excessive misogyny, gender based violence, hypertoxic relationship dynamics, frequent nonconsexual sex/rape scenes. etc. also really bad translations. - either gives me a subtle squick that im not willing to power through so i don’t read it, or it’s boring/tropey/familiar/uncreative or really poorly written. may not be horrid but is certainly not good. - i would read and might even enjoy this. there may be storytelling/narrative/pacing flaws which i will likely notate in a comment, or its great as a story but has a squick i cant overlook or not address/confront/reflect on/comment on. - really great. just a well written story that may include questionable things but did so with nuance, grace, delicacy, and leads towards a resolution. (some stories can be fives the whole time and then drop to a 4 because of a shit ending, which i will note).
i’ll start dating my reviews so it’s easier to see if this scale applies. lots of trash in my history has fives lmao my scale was if the smut was good i accept. but in my old age i gotta get more particular
