I didn't read the novel, but based on the webtoon's context, Sylhan is a high priority prisoner. Fjord is the king of another nation. He can't just steal Sylhan away, that will start a war. If Lister knew Fjord was actively in contact with Sylhan, he'd lock him up, or worse. Likewise, we don't know how much Fjord knows about Sylhan's current situation since he's been away at war for 2+ years.
Kinda pissed of cause Khalid portrayed as wise person yet he didn’t bring a lot of guards and army with himself. Why so suicidal? What if old king was not suddenly nicer than he seems figure? When what? But overall the story is great so you can actually fell for world around love story and actually care.

They lived in different era, their family had business which means they could not afford to bring their family down along with them as hayato said "if only i could've more prepared". Hayato admitted he was a coward, and there is a miscommunication in which the servant/maid also regretted that she became a spirit too. As for Hayato did not follow him in afterlife, if what you meant was Hayato not possessing the reincarnation as Yuuma did, I personally interpreted it as yes Hayato had regrets, but he died accepting the reality of them that can't be together in that era, yet he firmly believed they still mean for each other in another life, he also meant to give the amulet to Yuuma. That led to the present where Kaito and Yuuma meet each other and now Yuuma is the one giving Kaito the amulet.
This is not something to convince you to like it tho, just want to exchange perspectives. It's up to you to interpret a story and enjoy them..
