idk who popularized it, but I know Hollywood has some influence in it with the male stereotype should be dominant and should have no weakness while the female should be the submissive, emotional, damsel in distress. I think that there are a few reasons they are so popular.
Sometimes those really well constructed villains can be relatable and/or even a source for empathy. Their own backstories are so twisted we can understand how they turned out as they did and we can’t help but to wish them a different path to step onto.

I truly think that it's just as simple as, The author's think this is what people like or they just do what other authors do, they're probably too focused on how the story is gonna go next and deadlined to care how to make more unique sex scene, but of course thi could change. reply
I started to believe that some authors are probably virgin af, they don't know how sex works. It's crazy that most sex scenes aren't intimate or at least give the characters emotional bonds. It feels like two fellas were forced to mow a lawn except one of them doing it involuntarily 1 reply
I think that's because the sex scene just lacks the chemistry and communication between the two partners. Sex scenes hit so different when the two partners have amazing communication and foreplay through out and it actually feels like an intimate scene, yummy.
