It's really annoying and misleading. I honestly don't know if it's the straight x gay trope, the I like girls but I love you (a guy) cliché or just the authors genuinly not knowing/caring about sexuality.
However, I've read a few mangas where they actually say a character is bi or 'he swings both ways' so I guess this genre is slowly evolving an...... 3 reply
They usually don't explore the sexuality of the characters which is a shame. It's always the same pattern : The straight one falling in love with the same gender friend/nemesis and saying he's gay or "Not gay, just in love with one guy and it's you" and vis versa.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I've done the same thing numerous times and it just adds to the fun. Though I can't say I share the same experience of not being able to get off (unless I play with my ass), I've learned that it is really common for monotonous things to stop working.
