In theory I'm not against it but they usually just suck like most side couples, especially considering how the set up is like "oh it's a woman I thought my gay lover was screwing now has a boyfriend" or "this loser who couldn't get with the mcs for a boyfriend" like wow I care about that so much!   reply

My honest reaction would be like this person, cause I'mma be fr straight romance has millions and hundreds. Idc if there's a woman or wtv in my yaoi, but I came here for the queer romance. Not thar. If I wanted to read straight romance, I would look for it. I'd skip their scenes or chapters.   3 reply

Heaven's sake let the person have their yaoi served up the way they want it lol I agree with your comment that throwing around heavy insults without truly verifying from the source the context etc does lessen the meaning and value so...but fools that are quick to attack don't understand that -- tiny brains! People always want something to complain about when it comes to queer people mostly or only enjoying queer romance. They never call people homophobic for simply only reading straight romance, but suddenly it’s a problem when someone doesn’t wanna see a straight couple in gay romance manga??? I would understand if it was a straight woman saying ......   1 reply

I’m Ace and I don’t mind dating anyone who is Bi, Pan, Trans, etc. I may have never dated someone before, im alright with dating someone, or seeing someone who previously had a same sex or opposite sex partner. As long as they aren’t still hung up on their ex or a cheater. I’m ok with it. I suppose people who are not confident in themselves......   1 reply

Idk if this relates but this lowk reminding me of heesu in class 2 in a way, I personally have no issues with side couples being straight in queer media depending obviously on what the storys main focuses are but what I lowk had an issue with is how even tho heesu in class 2 was meant to be a bl series the main focus seemed to be the straight side ......   1 reply

Anyone saying they don’t want them thank GOD bro more for me Anyway I think the concern is coming from a place of not knowing who your partner has been with. I want to ask something, genuinely curious what people think. Do you guys believe that not wanting straight side couples in BL/GL is inherently misogynistic? I came across a thread where a girl said exactly that, she didn’t like straight side couples in her BL/GL, and the response was cruel. People called her every word in the book. Misogynistic, fetishizing, generalizing, basically anything that ended in “ize” or “ic” got thrown at her, whether or not it actually applied.

Here’s my take, I don’t think it’s misogynistic. Not even a little. If I’m reading a BL or a GL, I’m there for queer representation. That’s the reason I picked it up in the first place. So when a straight side couple gets inserted into the story, it’s not that I have a problem with hetero romance, I read plenty of it and enjoy it, it’s that it’s not what I came for. Wanting the media you turn to for representation to actually represent you isn’t a problem.

What bothers me is how casually people throw around words like “misogynistic” and “fetishizing.” These aren’t just insults you get to deploy because someone has a preference you don’t like. They mean something. And when you use them this loosely, you drain them of any weight for the situations where they genuinely apply.

The part that really gets me is that it’s usually the same people making these accusations who don’t actually care about gay men being fetishized, and don’t actually care about misogyny. They’re not defending anyone. They’re using the language of social justice as cover for what is, plainly, homophobia. Calling someone a “gay fetishizer” for reading BL, or “misogynistic” for not wanting heterosexual relationships in queer media isn’t concern about representation, it’s an excuse to be upset that queer stories exist without needing to justify themselves to people who dislike gay people in the first place. What’s your opinion on this?
