FL grows a backbone after being fucking KILLED (with her fiancé/husband being, at the VERY least complicit in her death) and does subtle shit to distance herself from the ML.. and yet bc of this the ML is “interested” bc the only attractive woman is the one who is averse to a mans advances.. which is some nasty ass predatory shit.
and i foresee some halfassed poorly-written childhood trauma related to affection being the main pity factor for the FL to “forgive” the ML.. even though trauma doesn’t give anyone the excuse to be neglectful (which is a form of abuse).. it’s not even a case of disorganized attachment or avoidant attachment, it’s just shit
this FL is insufferable. she’d be the worst possible teacher bc she doesn’t respect peoples boundaries AT ALL, and 70% of the story so far is the FL making her “bias” and the ogML uncomfortable. like what the fuck is she doing? clearly he’s interested in the FL, he’s very blunt about it, but the FL is just like “i heard you, but what if i completely disregard what you said and do something absurd. like noncon hugging your bro.” and hey- i love a lowkey brain damaged MC but this is just irritating.. and lowkey toxic?
her whole issue with him not falling head over heels for her off rip isn’t just because she’s a beautiful princess but because she’s internalized her commodification in this classist and (of course) patriarchal society.. she’s not mad that he doesn’t like her a person/mate, she’s mad that he won’t leave a yelp review.
and yeah, ig it’s accurate in BLATANTLY showing the issues faced by women under patriarchies, especially in the military and other high level positions.. LET ALONE the severe CPTSD the ML has. it’s giving a pro-capitalist romantasy critique of the military industrial complex.
a family of emotionally stunted men acquire a cinnamon roll who teaches them how to express themselves more healthily.. but you throw in HELLA FUCKIN TRAUMA for the FL and a pretty fleshed out magic system. the desertification of the estate is also really interesting, and i hope the curse/magic are developed more (i want a training arc).. HOWEVER.. they put a leash and collar on a child, which is WACK as fuck. harness have existed since like- 1500BC. i’m sure some high class tailor could make a fancy harness. (⊙…⊙ )
the FL is also severely traumatized, and every powerful man in the story post fire, is highkey threatening/abusive and manipulative. the ducal dudes aren’t as bad bc they feel pity for the FL almost immediately and start to dote on her (in their own weird ways). idk if the trauma the FL experienced is ever gonna be addressed aside from these CPTSD flashbacks.. and the fact that the FL has to spend time with what is essentially a corpse to supposedly “bring her back to life” with magic. oof. that can’t be good for her psychosocial development.

it’s not a bad read.. but the more you learn about the FLs role in the world and her past, it’s like fuck bro- she’s only 10! but she’s cosplaying as 8. they also beautify the effects of malnutrition. “yeah she’s starved to look younger” but has seemingly healthy skin, hair, and teeth.. those don’t go together. “teacup” animals, AKA animals thatre stunted due to malnutrition (and pisspoor genetics) usually have short lives and health problems and she’s already near burned to death TWICE does the author/artist get off to this?
