I damn near cried when he rushed straight to her and ignored the baby in favour of asking about HER health and showing HER love and affection. Even sweet big brother Claude put his mother’s health and safety above the baby sister. He was holding her but he still was looking at his mama! Honestly, we need more men and male characters like that. The baby is loveable and cute and should be cherished but those first moments should be about the achievement of the mother not the baby. It should be about HER safety and HER comfort and worshipping HER sacrifice and HER love that brought life to this world. I’m so sick of the narrative that it’s a woman’s duty so we shouldn’t care about her after the baby’s born because the doctor or midwife will take care of it. It’s so refreshing to see a village band together for the mama not just the baby ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ )

Look, I’m fine with picking up the phone and hubby gets a little mad it’s taking so long so he starts and then the phone call drops and you’re in it but seriously why are you letting this dude who loves your lover listen to your lovers voice? Are you not possessive? You went to his uni to yell at the dude on his behalf and ate a ton of angry words both from you and him but you aren’t possessive enough to not want someone to listen in? Humans have pheromones. We do. We can’t smell them because we don’t have the receptors for it but we do have something similar to pheromones and it’s why certain things “smell nice” about people and animals to us. We can’t tell anything beyond “wow! This is comforting!”. Anyways babies feed off of the mother. This included emotions. They feel everything the mother feels. If the mother is stressed, so is the baby. In this case, he was stressed, heartbroken and feeling SCARED around ML. The pheromones/ scent of ML plus the voice of ML plus the feelings MC felt during those times = very upset and scared baby. This is actually how babies know the father right out of the womb. They know mama from the heartbeat but they know if papa from the voice and how mama reacts to papa. That’s why it’s actually advised to continue having sensual/sexual relations in pregnancy to strengthen the bond between both parents and by extension, papa and baby. Plus orgasms release stress and that protects the baby. This is overdramatised for the sake of the story but it absolutely does happen. I’ve seen it so many times where the father was not stepping up during the pregnancy itself and mother was stressed and angry all the time or sad all the time and not only was the baby born a girl but the baby was also rejecting of the father immediately on just being close enough to smell him. He didn’t even talk. He didn’t do it with their second child (they worked out their marriage with counselling) and that child was a boy and loved both of them dearly from the second he was born. It happens and it takes a while but it’s honestly really hard to override that guard the child has unless the mama actively shows them putting their guard down and being loving with the papa. In the case of the couple I’m talking about, she would hold the baby while sat on his lap and he would hold them both. Over time, the baby would be put more and more onto the dads side until dad was holding the baby. I think it took like 4 months for them but it did eventually work and the child doesn’t even remember it.

As someone who has dated: it’s pretty much just two people playing house until one decides the other is an absolute moron and dumps them. I’m still a romantic at heart but dating is such a bullshit contest where no one is being truthful until 6 months in and then suddenly everything goes wrong. At least for this idiot, he’s put his worst foot forward and is still loved so he might be okay.

God I love them! I like how uke just understood seme and seme is so protective and affectionate. I cannot state how incredible this read was and I only wish I can be struck with amnesia of this manga so I can reread it for the first time all over again! I hope this author writes more about their life in America and I hope they write more rare and niche disabilities!

BTW for anyone wondering: CIPA is congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis. It’s exactly how it’s described in the book. You are born without the ability to feel pain or regulate temperature and a lot of babies end up dying due to it. It shows up like SIDs so we don’t actually have a true figure of how many kids were born with it but the ones who grow up past infancy show signs of recklessness. They often don’t feel fear either since most fears humans have are self preservation fears and they stem from not wanting to be hurt. A fear of heights because falling hurts. A fear of spiders and snakes because they bite and bites hurt. A fear of the unknown because the unknown can hurt us. They typically don’t have that since they can’t feel hurt. They also can’t regulate strength so they hurt themselves and others unless they are constantly monitoring their surroundings. I don’t know exactly if science has figured out WHY children are born like this (outside of it being a genetic mutation) but there’s no cure. There are treatment plans available but it’s more so to help manage the mental side of things like learning what an appropriate amount of strength is or stuff like paraffin wax treatment (under the care of a professional) for joint care and skin health. It’s a fascinating medical condition from the outside looking in and a heartbreaking diagnosis for the person who has it. I’m glad more people are becoming aware of rare congenital conditions like this!
