Are porn addicts just a group to mock and shame?
I watched this video where this youtuber talks about going to art school and he watched a friend of his perform their work, where the friend had opened with a five minute monologue about 'gooning'. And the youtuber found no matter how much of an open mind he tried to have he couldn't get it. It wasn't until later when he talked with some of his guy friends, that his friends opened up to him about their porn addictions, some struggling with it since middle school, and that the monologue was the first time they've ever felt seen and that their addiction wasn't treated like a joke.
After hearing and watching that I felt like I gained I new perspective. I realized there's some/a lot of vulnerability in that.. but idk. I feel like the stigma behind porn addictions is still really bad to take this new found perspective seriously.
Porn addiction is just as real as any other addiction. Sure the internet has turned it into a shameful meme but just like other addictions, you can't just click an off button for it and stop.
When you do it so much it becomes a routine, once you try stopping it comes to bite you back in the ass, literally. There's a certain 'pull' and 'itch' you ...... 3 reply
Hey, 'porn addiction' is not a real thing. It's not a psychological disorder, it's not recognized by the DSM and it does not have traits of what is considered addiction. It's a madeup phrase.
Yes some people can be too into porn or experience some negative effects, but if it was instead something like documentary videos or video essays (exclusive c...... reply
uh, so porn addiction isn't a thing actually.
"porn addiction" is a term coined in the 80s that is just not really supported by evidence
the ICD-11 does recognise something called CSBD, a compulsive disorder that is importantly NOT an addiction and does NOT fit the addiction model. CSBD is actually linked to things like high rates of childhood t...... 3 reply
the stigma is bad bc most porn men watch is misogynistic and should be shamed. they want sympathy while they're using their hand to get off to dehumanising and objectifying women. fuck if i care. reply
Depends on how it will affect their behavior, if they consider a non-sexual thing as "sexual", they need to get help ASAP. Especially that "Man of Culture" BS, like fuck off. The word "Man of Culture" became so freaking shallow. 1 reply
i guess its because there are so many addictions and issues such as substance abuse that have more dire and directly observable consequences that people don't really know how to approach 'porn addictions'. most often people see the victims of 'porn addictions' not being the individual but the people around them. for example- when u open up reels an...... reply
the behavior/mindset that people call "porn addiction" (or even sex addiction) doesn't match the criteria for addiction that's used to recognize gambling or drug addiction. there's no dependence or tolerance involved.
instead, there's research out there that says that religiosity or moral conflict over porn consumption is a more relevant factor to ...... 1 reply
(Ngl i dont really understand your question) I feel like its kinda the same with other addictions, its hard to talk about them because they are stigmatized, and thats where a lot of people feel shame on. Theres this vulnerability in openly (physically) confessing to someone or maybe just your own that one is addicted to something, it sounds crazy b...... reply
I don't believe you can be addicted to porn per say, its more so that human beings have sexual urges that boost in teenage years. Its normal to masturbate. With the availability of porn though, people feel dirtier for it and idk how to word it but either way gooning is normal.
Porn is not normal and should not be readily accessible though and I ge...... reply
