I think that yaoi does largely misrepresent the lgbtq+ community. It is used to appeal to women who enjoy male/male relationships, which is made glaring obvious by the fact that the genre “bara” exists. Definitely. I would not mind being an omega as long as my genetics are tweaked to that of a males. Being a female is boring and not at all satisfying when you can't get 1 person to even look at you... if I were an omega male I feel it would definitely change. reply
It's just porn and most of the time not made to be taken seriously or to represent actual gay people. as a person of the lgbt community yaoi or yuri can never be a good representation of gay men or lesbian women because in most yaoi and yuri the mc has either sexual harassed the mc once or practically raped their partner and most of these fan girls love to fetish gay people so we good i mean not all yaoi is bad but yall need fix it. 1 reply
I never think of yaoi as a representation of the LGBT community, never in a million years although I love to read yaoi myself. Furthermore I think very few anime or manga can represent their genre in reality because most of them are just the mangaka's imagination about the world that he/she dreams of, not the real one they're living in. The term "fujoshi" has, inadvertently, become synonymous with those who fetishize gay men. The girls who will think of two real life men and imagine them in situations like their favorite yaois and whatnot or randomly ship two men (REAL LIFE men) because they think it'd be hot (not because there's actual a genuine relationship between the two men)....... 1 reply
Well, for me at least. I treat Yaoi like any other romance novel. I'm here for the plot, the romance and the cliches. Just like how any other romance novel goes. Chick flicks, action movie romace, shoujo etc.
Every romance has a range from light hearted plot to straight up porn. Yaoi or BL is the same.

I am of the opinion that as long as the reader knows it is fictional and should not be reenacted in real life then people are just assuming that yaoi fans all like to fetishize gay people. There are some people who ship real life people in that sense and I am against that but that does not mean everyone in a generalized sense should be insulted or ...... reply

There are a few problems I have with yaoi and how it present LGBT community, but nonetheless I still like it.
