I got my ears pierced when I was a toddler (it's a cultural thing) but then I got my septum pierced when I was 18. Honestly, it really hurt and I don't plan on getting anymore piercings. At the same time, though, I really really love my septum piercing. I guage it up (make the hole bigger so the jewelry is thicker) and there are some pretty badass ...... reply
It's mostly been said already but it really does depend on the place, type (i.e surface piercings are less likely to last, from my experience anyway), who does it and of course pain tolerance. I have my lip pierced (I personally got snakebites) and I don't really know my pain tolerance but I would say it didn't hurt too bad I mean obviously it hurt but way less than I was expecting and really the worst part for me was when the jewelry was place in the fresh piercing

I have a second hole on my ear, it didn't hurt. Its just a sting. The further you move up your ear the more it will sting/hurt. It will be sore but you should be fine.
Like if you cut yourself with glass it hurts while its cutting but afterwards it's just a bit sore~
