Okay I need to talk about this because it’s actually insane. There was a TikTok going around saying if you like toxic yaoi or toxic characters, you’d apparently be into a literal pedophile if he was conventionally attractive. So I made a whole thread breaking down why that comparison doesn’t hold up, the psychology behind fictional dark/toxic romance tropes vs. real predatory behavior towards children are not remotely the same category, and treating them as interchangeable actually flattens a really important distinction. (By the way the toxic yaoi in question was cna, passion, unchanged man, killing stalking, etc.)

And instead of anyone engaging with what I actually said, the replies were just: “you read rape so you’re a rape apologist,” “stop making excuses, you support rape,” “rape and pedophilia are on the same wavelength.” None of that is what I said. Nowhere did I say I condone rape, I made a whole video specifically explaining why pedophilia and rape aren’t the same thing and why fiction isn’t a moral endorsement of the acts it depicts.

I even asked one person who kept insisting rape and pedophilia are “the same thing” to actually debate me on it. Their response? “I’m not arguing with a rapist who supports toxic rapist men.” I asked for an actual debate and got called a rapist. That’s the level of discourse we’re at, zero engagement, all accusation.
Like, what do you think of this? Because to me this isn’t a difference of opinion, it’s people refusing to read past the first sentence before reacting. It became “agree with the take or you’re defending predators,” which isn’t a discussion, it’s a purity test.

And the video had a ton of people agreeing with zero pushback, which is exactly why media literacy discourse online is in shambles. This is genuinely part of why CSA survivors have said online fandom spaces seem to care more about fiction being “problematic” than about how real harm actually works.

I just wanted to share this because it’s genuinely so stupid to me, and honestly it makes me feel like future generations are doomed if this is what passes for critical thinking now.

First of all, Ik is weird posting this kind of stuff in a pirate manga website, but Im positive that if your reading this is bc we are on the same side of our moral (the following is my experience but writeen as if they were a friend's words, I was kinda scared)

My friend and her mom are immigrants, her mom got married to this guy and they've been together for 2 almost years. A few months ago she got accepted into college (SAIC) and was looking for a scholarship to cover it, they had their interview for the residency on may, andwas about to graduate too; 3 days b4 the interview her stepfather said that he was not going and they had to re-schedule, bc he had a problem at Virginia 20 years ago and didn't want nothing to do with federal buildings. My friend and her mom made calls and tried to re-schedule...their case got denied, so they were now awaiting for deportation. A few motns ago they got an email saying that their case was being reviewed so there's that.

Another part is that her mom had a crash a few years ago, where a police car crashed at her at a stop sign, so she had a lawsuit ready there. My friend's stepfather is demmanding money bc my friend's mom just got the money from the lawsuit, and my friend's mom said no bc she never said that she was going to cover for his stuff (he wanted to bond a friend's husband out of jail and cover for his sister tumb, mind you, he demmanded 6000 dollars even tho he knows she is paying her debts, medical bills from the accident and lawyers). He is now calling her a thief, adn accusing her of betraying him and being disloyal, he also claims that they talked and went throught the process of doing the therapy from the crash together (which is a lie bc he only went once with her, and he just went as her driver), and she says that they never talked about it, bc when they talked she told him that she was going to use the money for the migratory process (the mind you, was expensive asf and he never gave a single penny for it, and this was also after it got denied bc of him and they were asking for 28000 just to help her fill the papers), but for some reason he thinks she said she was going to give him the money.

I hate him, almost all her friends (my friend group) that know about him hate him, bc he wants to help his friend with her migrating process, but never helped our friend with their case, he never ate their food bc he didnt like the seasoning (never tried ANYTHING), didn't like the music, going out to their parties, or their language (he would always demmand that my friend's family speak english, bc he said "we are in America you have to learn english"), but even though her mom tried her best at learning, he would always make fun of her talking/accent, and not even try to learn spanish.

Do they need lawyers?, do you know any law firms that can help with their situation?

i just see it in my fyp and it just look idk? cool or whatever and so i just started to read it and it's so good(in my opinion) that i think i just finish it in like?2 nights or 3? tho I'm not sure,but any recommendations like it or something?

It’s crazy how you look back at the stories you used to love and suddenly you really feels Harry Styles song “you know it’s not the same as it was.”

I was in high school when I first got into visual stories like webtoons, web novels, manga, and manhua, and I definitely had a specific type back then. I was obsessed with the damsel-in-distress/CEO trope. You know, the FL has a one-night stand with a CEO, gets pregnant, raises the baby alone, and then years later the CEO finds out he has a child. Or she gets forced to marry him. That trope was everywhere and I ate it up. Then there were the ghost bride stories. I remember being so obsessed with Bride of Hades. And of course, the world ruled by cats. That one will always have a special place in my heart TOT (i miss being in hs huhu). I also loved the transmigration stories set in ancient Egypt or China, where the FL suddenly becomes a king’s concubine or something equally chaotic. The Pharaoh’s concubine had me so hooked wherein I even saved up points on an app just so I could finish that one. Then there was Imitation, which really had me going upside down, I just loved that story.

It’s funny because my taste in stories now is so different from what I loved when I first started reading. Thinking about those stories is honestly nostalgic. Now, I read lots and lots of stories with gay guys lol. Crazy but I used to avoid the bl genre HAHAHA CRAZY HOW THINGS TURNED OUT TODAY
