My issue isn't that they ask for money or even paylock chapters so that they release a little behind for readers who are reading for free... The thing that pmo is that they cost so much more than the original. Or when they clearly don't care about the series and juat do shit without reading through to make sure it's ok (I am looking at Hyacinth Bl......   2 reply

Literally so big and greedy. Reminds me of the CC creators for the sims 4 trying to profit off of CC that’s locked for years, like yall highkey ruin the community that’s built when sharing mods/media/fanfics by trying to exploit the community to pay ur mfing bills omggg I think adding optional donations to any piece of translation or even mod ......   reply

omg I really get your point, Im an ex scanlator and it sure was tiring and very time consuming doing the chapters. At one time I thought that my efforts were useless. But it all actually depends on the intention itself from the start. it cant be considered a 'job' since the purpose that I did scanlations was because I positioned myself as the rea......   1 reply

Exactly. Look as a stop gap, I’m ok with these groups working on these series, but I don’t agree with the paywalls. Scanlation was supposed to be by fans for fans, and sometimes they would ask for donations to buy the raws, but that’s different from straight up asking for money to read something you’re working on illegally. And to add insul......   reply

You’re correct unfortunately, most of the dupes are ai groups. Kaizen in particular has been pissing me off for a while, since they actively upload stuff about their scanlations on social media… ^^’ I wish we could report them off the site, but I don’t know if there’s a way to do that or if enough people even care…   reply

for real! better off going to the actual apps or sites where the official translations are put out and you can actively support authors there! Literally, no one would be on mangago if they aint here to read stuff for free.(〜 ̄△ ̄)〜   reply

The four newest scanslation groups you see on all manhwas (and maybe manhuas?) are all AI, Myth Toons, Kaizen, Desire and Springtoons. So we are basically watching four AI groups put out shitty translations competing with each other and making our reading experience worse and mangago is doing nothing about that.   reply

Agree strongly. Couldn't have said it better myself. I get that time is money under capitalism but thats what "Like what we do, buy us a coffee" thing is for or "support us here blah blah blah"   reply

It's wild how some scanlation groups have gone from being hobby communities to basically running businesses off content they don't even own.

The whole point of scanlations used to be filling gaps, translating series that weren't officially available so fans could enjoy them. Whether you agreed with the legality or not, there was at least an understanding that it was a fan driven effort. Now, some groups lock the latest chapters behind paid access or push subscriptions and memberships as if they have the rights to monetize the work. They're charging people to read manhwas they didn't create, don't own, and don't have permission to distribute. The artists, writers, and official publishers see none of that money. Instead, a third party profits from someone else's intellectual property while presenting themselves as the gateway to the series. If you're going to pirate something, at least don't pretend you're entitled to build a business around it. It's one thing to translate as a fan project; it's another to put a price tag on unauthorized copies. That crosses the line from "sharing" into monetizing someone else's work.

If you genuinely support the creators, encouraging readers to buy the official release once it's available makes far more sense than squeezing every possible dollar out of pirated chapters. At the end of the day, if a scanlation group is profiting from unauthorized translations through paywalls, premium access, or aggressive monetization, it's hard to argue they're doing it "for the fans." At that point, they're running a business on intellectual property that belongs to someone else.

Why are there so many chapters posted by different scanlation groups now? Three duplicate uploads is already annoying, but sometimes there are four versions of the exact same chapter.

And what the hell is with some scan groups promoting their own websites and charging readers to access translated chapters? If someone's willing to pay, that money should go to the actual creators. Sure, translating takes effort, but trying to profit off someone else's work still doesn't sit right with me.

Also, what's going on with some scanlations these days? Are they just using AI or some shitty translator? Half the dialogue barely makes sense, and the translations are so awkward they ruin the reading experience.

i've read so many mangas but with mostly male protagonists, i've recently started reading witch hat atelier and the mc is so cute and strong and not fanservice so im rlly happy about that. even though the story is good and i WILL keep reading it, i want to go into more manhwas with female protagonists that are more psychological and not in the action/fantasy genres!!

I love me some female villains but there are times where you can tell the author wrote in a female villain so that it's more justified when she's humiliated and broken down by (often times) a male MC. And if I said Malty from Shield Hero is a good example of this people would call me crazy.   3 reply
