Hi no Ataranai Basho
this one hits close to home! A man with an allergy to the sun returns to the island where he grew up, and the boy he was in love with, to help with their dwindling population that threatens year-round occupancy. this is about tourism, and the author must know something about tourism because it was too spot on! there are some murky feelings early on and a dubcon moment.
BUTLER
A couple of butlers who had dated years earlier in the school reunite when they are employed by the same family. After a brief standoffish relationship, Aki fends off constant marriage proposals.
I’ve read several other things by this author but this had no emotional appeal for me. I didn’t like either character or care about the relationship. Their boss was probably the best character. I didn’t feel like the author’s heart was in this.
Koujitsuei no Tobira
Interesting concept but perhaps unsuccessful execution. A lot of details don’t work when you examine this from a step back. If Kai is only 17, there’s no way he has three years of CIA training. It would have been better to use made up organizations. About 2/3 of the way in is an info dump chapter. I wish the author had withheld more or worked across a larger number of volumes. There was just too much going on. I think the author knew that because her ending note goes on to explain away some of the plot holes. Beautiful art and character designs.
