i had to wake up early for a fuckass class (online) (yes on a sunday) & i have nothing to do now so im gonna yap a lil (a lot) :3 i was on twt the other day & the whole of ao3 twitter was calling out this one user who wrote a very very racist fic which was about murdering pregnant black women or smth? anyway from what i heard it was pretty disgustingly racist & the person who called it out was like, these types of writings should not exist. which I agree with.
but then some people noticed how the person who was calling this out was actually a proshipper, as in someone who believes all things in fiction have the right to exist, basically people who defend rape, pedophilia, bestiality etc in fiction to death. actually, a lot of the people shitting on that fic were proshippers. when people asked them, hey, how are u gonna shit on this but then turn around and defend other stuff, they just bullshitted their way through. this made me think about how if an extremely racist bl manhwa came out, people wouldn't be defending it as badly as they defend rape in bls. & im not sure why actually. is it bc everybody's really really desensitised to rape, or they believe its something that won't happen to them? & racism is something more commonly experienced? or is it bc rape is easier to fetishise since authors focus on the "pleasure". it's pretty hypocritical imo. if you're saying it's just fiction, then apply that to every single trope. & if u can't, then maybe u do believe that fiction isn't just fiction.
also, why do so many people believe somebody disliking problematic tropes in fiction (i.e. rape, pedophilia) does not make them a better person irl? why are they constantly saying you don't have better morals bc you dislike this shit, you're just a puritan. i believe somebody who does not engage in problematic media is a better person than someone who does, even if it's fiction. if i take myself as an example, I've once or twice glossed over rape or SA too, if i like the story a lot. but if somebody calls the rape out, says the manhwa is shitty for not treating the crime like it is, then i won't be bothered about it. i believe theyre better than me, have better morals than me too. at the same time i think I'm a better person than someone who actively looks for rape fetish content. and a better person than someone who enjoys shota. isn't that common sense though?
also, while i get that what u support in fiction doesn't necessarily mean u support the same thing irl, it's still pretty disgusting. why am i supposed to be okay with people finding my trauma hot when its portrayed in media? when a person says a shotacon isn't a pedophile bc they're attracted to drawings of children which don't resemble irl children at all, then why are they attracted to the drawings in the first place? what is it about the drawings that gets u hot and bothered, which drawings of adults don't have? i derailed a lil but idk. i think one's interests in fiction do reflect upon who they are as a person, and people being bothered by the things u fetishise doesn't make them a puritan, doesn't make them sensitive, doesn't make them a wannabe morally superior person. they are a better person.
