What makes a story “well written”?
What actually makes a story “well written” to you? I’ll read something that’s objectively kinda messy, but something about it still allures me and I rate it high, even when other people write it off as bad. So what’s your bar for well written? And if a story isn’t well written, why does it still pull you in anyway?
There's a buddhist saying "the finger pointing at the moon is not the moon". Maybe that's what a well written story does: it never gives you the whole truth, only enough to make you look for it.

to me, the main factor is how human the character feels. characters that feel real because their goals, conflicts, and actions arise from a coherent psychological foundation, if you're capable of making me feel for a character and relate the concept of a human to him, I'm sold on the show. When they don't spoonfeed you every time a situation and event is happening like you need the phrase "show don't tell" and only tell when necessary. I want to see the complexities of the characters and how the environment affects them and not just the main 2 characters being fleshed out (I like how skip and loafer manga does it). Diversity, good world building, and characters that don’t feel like cliches, stereotypes, or made for fan service. I think the first thing that catches my attention is the characters. Good stories always make their characters feel like real people. Even if I hate what they do, their actions still have to make sense to me. I especially hate isekai stories because most of them are so stupid that I have to turn my brain off to read them. writing is just the vehicle for ideas, so while the ideas are important for substance, personal interest and enjoyment, in the end, identifying something as "well-written" is based on the execution of the narrative. something could have great ideas even to the point of memorability and still be poorly written, lacking in execution.

For me, it's when the characters are really fleshed out and have clearly been thought through. Like, they each have their own mannerisms, identities, flaws, and how they then in turn interact with the other characters and all of their own complexities makes me really enjoy a story. I don't know, but I just find myself drawn to those types of storie...... reply
Story has a plot outside of romance between the main characters. Characters need to have motivations/goals beyond wanting to get together with each other. Pacing needs to flow naturally throughout the story. NO UNNECESSARY RAPE/SA. A well written piece is one that makes you think beyond what you've read as it assists you to unlock new horizons and seek points of view you've never considered.
